Position: Peer-to-Peer Support Counselor
Reports to: Directro, Center for Wellness and Mental Health
Overall Position Description: The peer-to-peer support counselor is a critical member of the St. Bernard Project's Center for Wellness and Mental Health team. The primary responsibilities of this position are to conduct outreach, provide support and problem solving assistance, make referrals and work with SBP clients to identify community members in need.
Responsibilities:
Conduct meetings with clients each week for one hour
Provide clients with mental health support through interviews and outreach programs
Identify clients needed for referral to professional clinicians
Record accurate documentation of meetings and progress with clients
Attend and participate in peer support case discussions
Help the CWMH create a successful system for service delivery for hard-to-reach clients
Provide information to supervisors regarding strengths and weaknesses of program implementation, coordination and logistics in the field
Attend all peer counselor trainings at the CWMH
Requirements:
Must have own transportation-10-20 Hours+mileage to clients
Adept listening skills and strong interest in helping St. Bernard residents
Ability to learn and master effective interviewing skills with clients
Confidentiality of clients
Extremely organized and responsible with important and confidential documents
Proficient with the Internet and basic Microsoft Office programs
No felony convictions within the last 10 years-No fraud-related misdemeanor convictions
