Description: Seeking Communication or Business student eager to gain a better understanding of the not-for-profit sector and event planning experience. Internship will provide a larger understanding of how a Development department functions on a daily basis as well as the process of raising money and strengthening relationships between Audubon and our donors. Interns must be self-motivated and eager to learn. The program is an unpaid, 20-hour a week internship for the fall 2010 semester. Interns will learn a wide range of event planning and behind-the-scenes fundraising operations, working on both deadlines and long-term projects.
Summary: Reporting to the Development Operations Manager, the Development Intern is responsible for assisting staff with event related duties and office operations.
Anticipated Projects:
Event Planning
• Assist Development staff in planning, preparing and producing the Aquarium’s 20th Birthday event – Scales & Ales – including tracking vendors and their contributions, ordering and organizing event decorations, handling production needs, and following-up with vendors as needed.
• Various tasks include preparing mailings, follow-up phone calls, organizing event details, and production assistance.
• Process and package online ticket orders for event.
Donor Relations
• Assist Development staff with donor relations program including processing acknowledgement letters and receipts, preparing materials for donor meetings, preparing follow-up materials for donor tours, and other donor relations projects as needed.
• Assist in updating donor records in fundraising software
• Track donor relations projects in fundraising software including processing and fulfilling bi-weekly exhibit updates for donors
Social Media
• Create marketing plan for Audubon’s YouTube.com channel and implement plan including shooting videos, adding to youtube.com and disseminating through Audubon’s other Social Media channels
• Update weekly Social Media report
Adopt An Animal
• Create Adopt An Animal marketing plan to be implemented in the fall of 2010.
• Assemble and mail adoption packages.
• Assist Development staff with the Aquarium Adopt An Animal event.
Office Operations
• Maintain department’s hard files on donors and on general Audubon Institute information.
• Fax, copy, mail and file information as requested by development and member services staff members.
• Process check requests and purchase orders as needed for the Development Department.
• Assist with purchasing and packaging donor giveaways.
