The hyperlocal online daily digital news and culture publication NOLA Defender (www.noladefender.com) is seeking a sports editor to add to our stable of scribes. This position has potential for creative input and freedom, as the selected member will write a comprehensive document outlining the permanent implementation of this section into the website. The section will focus on ‘Alt Sports’, including Volleyball, Pool, RollerDerby, Bike Polo, Darts, Kickball, and Soccer; additional suggestions are welcome.

Responsibilities include:

- A written report determining what sports will be covered, frequency of updates, aesthetic vision, potential ad outlets, photo
needs, and reporter/staffing needs

- Generate list of leagues and commissioners.

- Contact commissioners.

- Work with Editor to recruit and manage sports staff.

- Daily updates upon the Sports Section launch (personally executed, or scheduled and delegated to additional sports writers)

- Organize tournaments.

The ideal candidate has a genuine interest and background in sports, a basic knowledge of the local ‘alt’ sport scene, and competent writing and management skills.

Compensation will be limited to weekly free drinks to accompany Monday night editorial meetings and free passes/perks for events we cover. Exposure and experience remain our chosen seasonings to sweeten the pot. If interested, please email info@noladefender.com.
