The NOLA Media & Advocacy Project is hiring undergraduate-level Summer Interns who will help The NOLA Media & Advocacy Project team execute its programs and operations that support its community organizing and media outreach projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The intern will assist the NOLA Media & Advocacy Project team and play in an essential role in the execution of our summer campaigns and programming. The selected individual will be expected to commit 20 hours per week.

Examples of typical work for the Advocacy & Community Organizer Intern include:
• Managing online advocacy projects
• Assisting with community outreach through organizing and coalition building
• Expanding online networks
• Composing weekly correspondence to partners and online networks
• Support NOLA Media & Advocacy Project team to implement its operations and programming.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The NOLA Media & Advocacy Project Intern must exhibit the following:
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Computer literacy and knowledge of online networking sites preferred.
• Passion to participate in the important social issues affecting the New Orleans metro area.
• Flexibility and ability to multi-task
• Creative and hardworking personality

EXPERIENCE:
Candidates for the summer internship must be currently enrolled in a college or university. Junior or senior standing preferred. Preference for candidates with prior knowledge of recovery issues, urban planning, community organizing or health care issues.

HOURS:
Aside from the minimum hourly requirements defined above (20 during the summer), hours are fairly flexible. However, in exchange for the latitude we give you to set your own schedule, we occasionally ask for flexibility on your part.

We seek to support, encourage and promote transparent and participatory decision-making on issues of public interest and concern. The NOLA Media & Advocacy Project supports these issues through online advocacy, community organizing and independent investigative reporting. This summer, the NOLA Media & Advocacy Project is developing solutions to promote health care, government transparency and participatory planning within the New Orleans area.
