Reader Engagement Consultant
The Lens

Position: The Lens, an online investigative newsroom based in New Orleans, seeks a reader-engagement consultant to connect with the public, guide and monitor online conversations, market our website and manage our Public Insight database of sources.

Compensation: This is a one-year contract position, with a maximum compensation of $35,000. No other benefits are included. The full one-year term is available only upon attainment of agreed-upon quarterly goals, as determined by The Lens management and board of directors.

Requirements: Excellent writing and speaking skills are a must. This person needs to have a unique voice and be comfortable writing persuasively. Familiarity with, and appreciation of, today’s swiftly changing news-media world is essential. Although the job includes social-media work, it involves far more than running our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Job success hinges on being able to draw a variety of audiences to our vibrant and independent public-interest investigative journalism. The reader-engagement consultant will need to be a highly motivated self-starter but also a collaborator, able to team with a small and hard-driving staff, particularly our chief fund-raiser. Marketing experience is a plus, as is journalism experience. This position is a good fit for someone with three to five years of experience at a nonprofit.

Who we are: The Lens is a non-profit newsroom that primarily publishes online, though we have content-sharing partnerships in New Orleans with WVUE-TV and The Louisiana Weekly newspaper.
