Southern Orthopedic Specialists is a private practice orthopedic group consisting of 9 orthopedic surgeons and approximately 50 employees. The group maintains two offices, one in uptown New Orleans and the other in Metairie, La. The practice has a long history of providing orthopedic care to the citizens of New Orleans and the surrounding area. The group has subspecialty expertise in sports medicine, arthroscopy, trauma, spine, foot, ankle, and hand surgery and total joint arthroplasty. The practice has a physical therapy department at both the uptown and Metairie offices.
Job Summary:
Leadership and administrative accountability for all clinical services. Primary responsibilities include business planning and implementation, service delivery, physician relations, financial performance, regulatory agency compliance, long range financial and clinical forecasting, allocation of strategic capital and new business development.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
• Develops and monitors organizational policy in conjunction with other management personnel and the Managing Partners
• Responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the organization as well as the future growth (strategic planning and marketing).
• Responsible for all administrative functions of the medical group, including operations, marketing, finance, managed care/third party contracting, physician compensation and reimbursement, human resources, medical and business information systems.
• Responsible for all CFO activities. Oversees the implementation of financial policies. Monitors financial activities including budgeting, analysis, accounting, billing, payer contracting and collections. Prepares or oversees the preparation of monthly and annual reports as well as long-term projections to ensure that the organizational financial obligations are met. Obtains funds for financing or capital development.
• Establishes and maintains the practice’s fee schedule and fees that relate to managed care activities. Conducts regular analysis of reimbursement rates.
• Oversees all aspects of the organization’s salary/wage administration program as well as benefits program.
• Oversees profit sharing plan, investments and all other trustee obligations.
• Maintains banking, legal, insurance, and all business-related functions.
The current office manager will be maintained until the new manager has learned the basic information and skills to feel comfortable with performing the job. The primary administrative offices are located in uptown New Orleans but some time will also be needed to manage the Metairie office.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
Strategic Planner: Present organization’s strategic plan accurately and clearly to those responsible for achieving goals and targets.
Communicator/Motivator: Communicate all information to appropriate individuals accurately and timely. Motivate accordingly in order to retain, build, and improve the organization’s members.
Decision Maker/Delegator: Makes decisions within the organizational structure. The manager “manages” the work and the organization: delegation is imperative in order to grow and/or improve the organization.
Problem Solver: Encourage others to solve problems for which they are responsible. Manager must solve time-consuming problems that distract other workers from completing their daily tasks.
Organizer: Responsible for organizational structure. System must be so well organized that staff’s time is utilized effectively. This includes making the most of technology.
Action: All of the above require “action.” Action must be timely, accurate and punctual. The marketplace demands a good strategic plan and following through on the details. The actions and efforts of the Manager set the pace for the entire office staff.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required with 5+ years of supervisory experience. Desirable qualifications include an MBA degree with accounting, computer, organizational skills and an interest in the health care field combined with a desire to learn.
