Position: Research & Programs Associate Intern (unpaid)

About Social Entrepreneurs of New Orleans (SENO): Our mission is to build a powerful community and ecosystem of support for social entrepreneurs and to find solutions to our city’s most pressing social challenges. A “social entrepreneur” is someone who has come up with a more efficient or effective solution to tackling a social problem and measures his/her success not in financial profit but in social impact. Our vision for New Orleans is twofold:

1) Every qualified early-stage social entrepreneur in New Orleans receives the assistance, support, and community they need to overcome their highest priority challenges in order to create and accelerate measurable and significant social impact.
2) We systematically incubate new social ventures that fill specific gaps in specific sectors (education reform, green building, health care reform, etc.) through a process of framing opportunities, conducting market analysis, incentivizing solutions through competitions, and supporting the launch of new ventures.

SENO recently won the 2009 Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business, were honored as a New Orleans Gambit “40 Under 40,” were recognized by City Councilman Arnie Fielkow at a City Council meeting, were honored by the Louisiana Lt. Governor’s Office of Social Entrepreneurship, and have been featured on the cover of New Orleans City Business.

Position Description: Our ideal candidate will be an innovative self-starter and leader with excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills. This is a flexible and entrepreneurial role that can be what the candidate makes it. The Research & Programs Associate Intern is an exciting dual role that will expose an intelligent, capable, efficient, and flexible individual to a variety of job functions in a start-up nonprofit organization that is poised to expand quickly.

Research and writing responsibilities will include interviewing both emerging and high-profile social entrepreneurs, writing social entrepreneur profiles, conducting market analysis on social entrepreneurs’ needs and desires, compiling resources for social entrepreneurs, and monitoring the global social innovation community for the latest trends. Program management responsibilities will include recruiting executive mentors and mentees for our Executive Mentoring Program, being the lead support to program participants, and helping plan and execute events such as the Group Think series. If there is interest in development work, there would be opportunities for the intern to write and research grants.
