Department: Construction

Organizational Overview
St. Bernard Project (SBP) is a non-profit organization that creates housing opportunities so that Hurricane Katrina survivors can return to their homes and communities. St Bernard Project seeks individuals from all backgrounds and life experiences who have what it takes to develop innovative solutions that bring families back home in a community still struggling to recover years after Hurricane Katrina hit. While there is no “ideal” St Bernard Project team member, we believe the following traits are common amongst our members – problem solving, strong leadership, drive, flexibility, and positivity.

AmeriCorps members serve in virtually all facets of SBP’s operations. We currently have the following openings within the Construction Department of our Fall 2011 AmeriCorps class:

Assistant Electrician

Assistant Plumber

Assistant Carpenter
Assistant Carpenters serve in small crews that may be broken down into specific areas of carpentry, including, but not limited to, finish carpentry, cabinet/countertop installation and framing.

Warehouse Mechanic
The Warehouse Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that all SBP tools are clean and in proper working order, as well maintains a tracking system that accounts for the whereabouts of all tools.

Warehouse Coordinator
The Warehouse Coordinator oversees all operations in the SBP warehouse by tracking inventory of materials, preparing supply kits for distribution to project sites and maintaining a clean and orderly space.

Supply Runner
The Supply Runner handles the logistics of transporting all tools and materials between vendors, SBP’s warehouse and SBP’s project sites.

Supply Coordinator
The Supply Coordinator oversees all logistics of getting supplies and materials to work sites by compiling all supply orders from Project Managers and determining the most efficient method for getting supplies from the vendor or SBP warehouse to the project site on time.

Green Building Coordinator
The Green Building Coordinator oversees the development of green building initiatives within SBP’s construction department by work with a team of coworkers, partners, and consultants to implement the St. Bernard Project’s mission of creating affordable, humane, and sustainable housing into functioning programs.
