General Position Overview:
KIPP New Orleans is seeing a dynamic clinical psychologist who will bring unique knowledge and skills to the school system and student support services. The clinical psychologist will serve as a member of the Pupil Appraisal Team in the support, identification and eligibility of students with disabilities. This includes but is not limited to individual, student, classroom and whole school interventions including classroom observations, 1508 compliant evaluations, staff consultation, individual and group therapy.

The mission of KIPP New Orleans Schools is to create an influential network of public schools that gives students the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in competitive high schools, colleges and the world beyond. KIPP New Orleans Schools currently operates seven schools in the Recovery School District serving over 1,500 students from grades Pre-Kindergarten to ninth grade. With plans to open two new elementary schools in the fall of 2011, KIPP New Orleans Schools will eventually serve over 2,200 students.
With longer school days, innovative teaching, and a motivating learning environment, we are working to ensure that all of our students are prepared for college and beyond. KIPP students are assigned homework every night, and KIPP teachers are available by cell phone to assist as necessary. KIPP schools in New Orleans embrace the spirit of New Orleans with band, visual arts, or other fine arts available at every school.
KIPP New Orleans Schools is associated with the national KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Network, which recruits and trains school leaders to open KIPP schools across the country. The KIPP network is rapidly growing; there are currently 98 KIPP schools in 19 states, serving around 20,000 students.
Qualifications:
• PhD required
• Licensed as a clinical psychologist required
• Experience with writing 1508 compliant evaluations required
• Experience working as member of pupil appraisal team required
• 3 years experience in schools required, experience in urban schools highly preferred
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Conduct evaluations and serve as a member of the IEP and multi-disciplinary teams
• Assess student needs and participate in determining services, delivery methods, and any necessary referrals
• Perform classroom observations
• Perform teacher consultations
• Create and lead mandatory and other in-service training for faculty and staff
• Create and lead individual and group therapy, along with crisis prevention and intervention, as needed
• Early identification of support intervention
• Work with teachers, parents, staff, and students to build relationships and decide on the best path for each student
• Operating with professional, innovative, open-minded approach
Compensation:
• Salary is based on the public school pay scale in New Orleans, with additional compensation for the extra hours required. Competitive benefits package including health coverage and retirement.
