Community Works of Louisiana is seeking afterschool Teaching Artists for Fall 2011 in the following subject matters: Computer Literacy, Film, African Dance, and African Drumming.
CWLA Teaching Artists are usually professional artists in the community selected not only for their artistic talent, but their ability to engage students and exhibit classroom management skills. Everything CWLA does is rooted in the belief that extended learning opportunities are most impactful when they look and feel different then the regular school day. Ideal candidates will have experience working with students ranging from PK-8th grade. The ability to integrate numeracy and literacy into daily activities, communicate well with students as well as other staff members and reinforce what students have learned during the school day are necessary for success as a CWLA Teaching Artist.
Qualifications:
- Teaching Artist should demonstrate deep knowledge, understanding, and technical mastery of subject matter.
- Teaching Artist should possess a genuine desire to share their passion and experience with young people.
- Teaching Artist should understand the complexities and challenges of school environments and know how and when to be flexible.
- Teaching Artist should have a reliable form of transportation and be willing to drive at least 25 minutes to a site.
