Bookkeeper, Hands On New Orleans
Organization Description:
HandsOn New Orleans (HONO) is a non-for-profit volunteer organization established in March of 2006 to help rebuild New Orleans. HONO has been involved in the implementation of a wide variety of projects that support the rebuilding efforts and mobilize volunteers from all over the world. The organization encourages people to not only participate in the rebuilding efforts, but to become engaged in their communities and to promote volunteerism as a means of addressing social issues. Summary of Duties:
The Bookkeeper will record, monitor, and report on all expenses/revenue activity for Hands On New Orleans.
Primary Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping
• Record expenses and revenue
• Reconcile all account balances
• Monitor and distribute petty cash
• Reimburse volunteers and staff for expenses paid with personal funds
• Collect supporting data for HONO, HON/POLF
• Ensure all 1099 information is collected for each vendor and independent contractor
• Maintain records of invoices for all expenditures
• Cut and record checks for purchases, bills and reimbursements
• Assist with managing budgets with the Executive Director
• Managing Cash Drawer and Petty Cash Loans
• Back up Quickbook files daily
Reporting and Management
• Provide account spending reports to the appropriate HONO staff, HON/POLF, and HONO Finance Committee
• Notify HONO Executive Director when accounts require funds; and to prepare the necessary bank/request documents
• Report anomalous expenses to HONO management team
• Filing all contracts, Paying contractors, and submitting 1099 Documentation
• Reconciling all activity monthly and compiling monthly report
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have:
• Deep commitment to HandsOn New Orleans’ mission
• Ability to organize and carry out multiple tasks efficiently and with little supervision.
• Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate successfully with people from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work in high stress environment
• Knowledge and experience working with Quick Books
• At least two years of experience working with non-profit accounting preferred
• Bachelors degree in accounting or similar field preferred
• Fluency in English with good written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with the New Orleans area preferred but not required
