About Us:
The Alliance for a Healthier Generation works to address one of the nation’s leading public health threats—childhood obesity. The goal of the Alliance is to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity by 2015, and to empower kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices. Founded in 2005 by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation, the Alliance works to positively affect the places that can make a difference in a child’s health: homes, schools, doctor’s offices and communities.

Through one of its key initiatives, the Kids’ Movement, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation supports out-of-school time providers in creating healthier environments and empowering all kids to make healthy choices and become leaders and advocates for physical activity and healthy eating.

The Alliance believes that youth-serving organizations (afterschool programs, faith-based organizations, youth clubs, park and recreation departments, summer camps, etc.) play an essential role in equipping young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy choices and to reinforce the importance of those choices through opportunities for them to select healthy foods and beverages, participate in physical activity and limit screen time. Thus the Alliance collaborates in specific communities with youth-serving and community organizations to institute policies and practices that provide healthier food and beverages, opportunities for physical activity, and positive youth development. In these places the Alliance supplies tools and coaching to implement best practices for increasing access to physical activity and healthier foods, as well as achieving standards adopted by the National Afterschool Association.

The Alliance also believes that young people play key roles in developing solutions to the obesity problem. Kids have a stake in making a difference, as their futures will be affected by the epidemic. They offer valuable insights and perspectives and, within a positive youth development model, become effective community leaders for healthy change. The Alliance provides support to youth-serving organizations for collaboration with youth to help them learn and practice making healthy choices in their own lives; encourage their families and friends to make healthy choices; and lead healthy changes in their schools and neighborhoods.

It is the goal of the Alliance to fill employment vacancies with the most qualified applicants, whether recruiting internally or externally. Strong consideration will be given to qualified internal candidates. All internal and external candidates must comply with application requirements.
