New Orleans
Posted: August 08, 2011
Position Summary
Since 2005, Teach For America-Greater New Orleans set out and achieved one of the most ambitious growth plans in the organization's history. Over the past three years, the number of incoming teachers increased from 80 annually to over 200 annually, culminating in our current corps size of over 400 teachers. As a result, the number of alumni living and leading in this region has also quadrupled from 100 to over 500 this year. This growth required increasing our operating budget from a approximately $1 million annually to over $9 million annually. As a result of this growth, over 1 in every 3 students attending public school across our region are now taught by dedicated, convicted educators that have the ability to empower them to access the opportunities they want and deserve in life.
As we look to the next five years, the best contribution that Teach For America can continue to make to impact student achievement in our region is human capital, both in terms of excellent corps member teachers but more significantly in terms of alumni leaders. Teach For America's 2015 regional vision focuses on accelerating our impact in Greater New Orleans by ensuring that all of our teachers are highly effective leaders in the classroom, thus altering the life path of the students they reach everyday. Simultaneously, we are firmly committed to maintaining our current corps size of 400 corps members as that is the fuel that will continue to build the leadership of our alumni base. If we are able to continue on this trajectory, we project that by 2015, Greater New Orleans will double the amount of alumni leaders and will boast 1,000 alumni living and working in the region.
The Director of Individual Giving (DIG) will drive our campaign to raise approximately $8,000,000 over the next 5 years from individuals in support of our overall goal to raise $36,500,000 by 2015 in operating revenue. The DIG will work closely with the Managing Director, Development (MDD) and Executive Director (ED) to set and execute high level individual giving strategy and will be responsible for: creating and executing an operational plan in order to meet fundraising goals; developing strategies and cultivation plans for a portfolio of donors and prospects; and managing up to the ED and MDD to cultivate, solicit and steward donors. To be successful, a DIG must: be a critical thinker with a keen understanding of what motivates others; display sound judgment in prioritizing actions based on outcomes; and be able to get results through others. This individual must also be exceptionally organized with strong attention to detail and a high bar for quality. The DIG will report directly to the MDD.
