General Position Overview
The Curriculum and Assessment Specialist is responsible for promoting and sustaining a culture of high academic and social expectations across KIPP New Orleans network schools. In order to support the creation, implementation and assessment of a rigorous, college-preparatory program for all students, pre-K to 12, the Curriculum and Assessment Specialist serves as a point person between KIPP New Orleans and the national KIPP network, as well as acts as coordinator among and between individual schools within KIPP New Orleans.

The Curriculum and Assessment Specialist is responsible for safeguarding individual school leaders’ autonomy and power to lead through capacity building and resource support. Equally, the Curriculum and Assessment Specialist ensures that KIPP standards of excellence are maintained across schools. Specifically, Curriculum and Assessment Specialist is the point person for supporting school leaders in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment creation and delivery.

The mission of KIPP New Orleans Schools is to create an influential network of public schools that gives students the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in competitive high schools, colleges and the world beyond. KIPP New Orleans Schools currently operates nine schools in the Recovery School District serving over 2,400 students from grades Kindergarten to tenth grade.

With longer school days, innovative teaching, and a motivating learning environment, we are working to ensure that all of our students are prepared for college and beyond. KIPP students are assigned homework every night, and KIPP teachers are available by cell phone to assist as necessary. KIPP schools in New Orleans embrace the spirit of New Orleans with band, visual arts, or other fine arts available at every school.

KIPP New Orleans Schools is associated with the national KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Network, which recruits and trains school leaders to open KIPP schools across the country. The KIPP network is rapidly growing; there are currently 110 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia, serving more than 32,000 students.

Qualifications and Skills:
• BA degree is required
• Minimum 2 years teaching experience (or equivalent curriculum design experience) required, 3 or more years highly preferred
• Detail oriented with exceptionally strong initiative and follow-through skills
• Experience editing and proofreading
• Highly effective at communicating orally and in writing to a range of audiences.
• Ability to work pro-actively in an ambiguous, dynamic, fast paced environment
• Strong relationship management skills and a good sense of people, doesn’t get ruffled easily
• Proactive problem solver who demonstrates initiative
• Demonstrated experience performing routine and complex tasks in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• A strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
• Dedication and commitment to KIPP and KNOS mission and core values

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Manage implementation of KNOS curriculum project and KNOS interim assessments
• Work with academic team to -set/document curricular visions -manage publication of KNOS grade/content curriculums -develop and implement 2011-2012 interim timeline and procedures -manage documentation of KNOS grade/content curriculums
• Work with academic and data teams to build KNOS question bank
• Support and project manage a regional interim assessment system including design of assessments, creating assessment calendar, and production and delivery of assessments
• Manage the process to turn drafts from interim assessment creators into final drafts, production, and delivery to schools
• Ensure timely delivery of interim data to schools and teachers
• Work with teachers to ensure timely, high quality creation of curriculum
• Provide support on cluster-wide curricular alignment when appropriate (long term plans; scope and sequence; curricular templates; standards, benchmarks, grade-level equivalencies)
• Supporting academic and operations team on regional professional development team
• Oversee that external assessments and test coordination with MAP and statewide LEAP and iLEAP tests are administered uniformly across KIPP New Orleans network
