Position:
New Orleans College Prep seeks a Dance Coach responsible for teaching students sportsmanship, how to be a student-athlete, and the skills necessary to succeed at their respective sport.

Opportunity:
If you are relentless about seeing disadvantaged students achieve at high levels, this is a chance to coach at a school that does whatever it takes to ensure college success for all children. Moreover, your work would make a profound and lasting contribution to the post-Katrina revitalization of New Orleans.

Background:
New Orleans College Prep (NOCP) is a public, open enrollment, charter school for underserved children from across Orleans Parish. Currently in its 4th year of operation, NOCP serves a population of 640 students – (400 students in grades 6-9 and 240 students in grades K-3.)

Our mission is to prepare each of our students to enter and excel in a rigorous 4-year college or university. In contrast to low-performing public schools that fail to focus on results, NOCP utilizes an extended school day and year, a disciplined and nurturing school culture, and data-driven instruction to drive dramatic gains in student achievement. New Orleans College Prep will provide all our students with a sound college preparatory education that rivals the academic rigor of the best private and public schools in the city.

Job Expectations:

1. Use “teachable moments” on a daily basis to emphasize the importance and essential elements of the five core principles of NOCP: Respect, Excellence, Caring, Perseverance, and Joy.
2. Promote sportsmanship and foster good character by teaching, advocating, enforcing and modeling the five principles above.
3. Create and implement a program that will enhance the academic, emotional, social, and ethical development of student athletes.
4. Hold practice every school day from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm and attend all games or events
5. Teach students responsibility by holding them accountable for attending all practice and games.
6. Teach students the essential skills necessary to excel at their sport to the best of their ability.
7. Confer with parents to develop a high level of commitment for the program that their child signed up for.
8. Reinforce and maintain the school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations.
9. Communicate effectively and maintain strong relationships with students, families and colleagues.
10. Promote dramatic and consistent improvement in athletic performance of all students.

Qualifications:
1. An unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels
2. A Strong commitment to do whatever it takes for all our students to be college-ready
3. Experience in playing or coaching dance and cheerleading
4. Experience working with students aged 11 – 18 (especially in an urban setting)
