Position: Controller – Operations Mgmt.
Company Description
Sucré is a manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer of an array of artisanal chocolates, gelato, pastries, confections, and cakes. The Company distributes its products through its retail stores on Magazine St. in New Orleans and at Lakeside Mall in Metairie. The wholesale and ecommerce businesses operate out of Sucré’s production facility – Confection Studio. Sucré is currently planning expanding operations via ecommerce, wholesale sales and the addition of new retail stores. The Company is seeking a talented and dynamic individual to play a major role in this upcoming growth phase.
Position Description
As Sucré is a small company the Controller will interact directly with all aspects of the organization playing a key role in the management of the business alongside the co-founders of the business. This individual will be responsible for managing the accounting and finance functions of the company as well as the fulfillment and logistics departments.
The ideal candidate will have an accounting background (CPA preferred) with some cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum Qualifications
• 2 – 4 years experience as a Staff Accountant, Asst. Controller, Controller, or Financial Analyst
• 2 – 4 years of general management experience with supervisory responsibilities
• 2 – 4 years of cost accounting – process management
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with co-workers.
• BS/BA
Desired Qualifications
• CPA certification
• Cost accounting experience in a light-manufacturing environment.
• Experience in the confectionary industry.
Principal Accountabilities
Accounting and Finance
• Recommend and implement accounting procedures, ensure database optimization and manage operational data to ensure system controls for data integrity and accuracy.
• Complete working knowledge of Peachtree.
• Must be able to facilitate migration from Peachtree to Sage – Simply Accounting.
• Lead month end closing and financial reporting process including account analysis and general ledger account reconciliation.
• Audits work flow to assure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized and recorded in the current accounting period
• Substantiates expenditures reported on expense reports for proper authorization and adherence to policy
• Reviews monthly revenue recording for accuracy
• Reviews monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare monthly and yearly financial statements.
• Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions and process reconciliations in a timely manner
• Identifies, recommends and implements corrective measures for internal control compliance
• Develops operational procedures and documents data flow
• Prepares and distributes job cost reports and assists construction management with interpretation, variance identification and resolution.
• Oversee the preparation of payroll and maintain filings.
• Assist outside accountant in the preparation of all income?tax forms, filings.
• Coordinate and assist with audits as necessary. ?
• Prepare and file all federal, state and local sales, excise and payroll taxes.
• Maintain company budgets and develop new budgets as necessary.
• Work with business unit leaders to evaluate budgets and develop strategies to improve profitability.
• Analyze and report on margins by product and division.
• Conduct cost benefit analysis on marketing and advertising initiatives.
• Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis as requested.
• Coordinate physical inventory counts.
• Maintain employee compensation plan and other benefit plans as necessary.
• Prepare reports, forecasts, budgets and other information as requested by management to evaluate current operations or opportunities.
Operations and Production
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the fulfillment and logistics departments.
• Work side by side with the production and fulfillment departments on improving manufacturing and packaging procedures to streamline production and decrease costs.
• Assist in developing strategies to streamline logistics and ensuring the timely delivery of products to the Company’s retail stores, wholesale clientele, and ecommerce customers.
• Assist with biding and evaluating insurance policies.
• Manage procurement of packaging, supplies and other non-food items.
• May play a part in evaluating or strategizing other purchases.
Human Resources
• Assist in further development of company-wide human resource policies.
• Maintain employee files.
Compensation:
• 45K base +, base salary has a range and will be commensurate with experience.
• Participation in employee profit sharing plan.
