Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates exemplary classroom literacy practice.
Demonstrates literacy teaching in a variety of settings and grade levels.
Extends literacy competencies through professional development opportunities and networking with other literacy coaches.
Provides demonstrations of literacy components.
Observes and coaches classroom teachers in effective practices.
Provides sustained mentoring to classroom teachers.
Plans and conducts professional literacy team meetings.
Provides workshops on the literacy framework.
Helps improve instruction by engaging teachers in intensive professional development and promotes a school-based professional community.
Manages and evaluates the school’s literacy program to ensure the highest level of quality.
Collects data, analyzes results, and reports findings.
Implements a school-wide assessment system for monitoring student achievement.
Evaluates student achievement and assists with placing students in appropriate intervention and support services.
Evaluates effectiveness of the overall literacy program.
Identifies needs and makes recommendations for appropriate reading and writing materials.
Meets regularly with the principal and school leadership team to report on progress and plan next steps.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred in Curriculum and Instruction or Reading Specialist.
A minimum of three (3) years of successful professional school experience.
Strong background in both theory and practice of literacy education.
Meets NCLB Highly Qualified requirements for ELA or elementary grades.
Additional criteria as established by the Recovery School District.

Working Conditions:

This position works in an office setting in a climate controlled environment.

Job Requirements:

Must be able to operate a variety of equipment.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds.
Must be able to communicate in Standard English both orally and in writing.
Must be able to give and receive information electronically.
Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with school and district personnel and the public.
Must be able to work cooperatively with others.
Must be able to respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement.
Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
Must keep accurate and up to date records.
Must comply with state and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
