Your job is all about numbers. Now it can be about students.
Share your passion for math with the students of New Orleans.
teachNOLA seek the nation’s most outstanding mid- and post-career professional and recent college graduates to make a difference by raising student achievement as a teacher in public schools in New Orleans. No educational experience or coursework is necessary.
Students in New Orleans need effective math teachers. In 2010, just 26% of the city’s eighth grade students scored at “Advanced” or “Mastery” on the math portion of the state-mandated LEAP Test. While these scores have improved since Hurricane Katrina, there is still work to be done. Help change this reality for our children by teaching math in a high need school.
These statistics underscore the need for effective teachers in every classroom in New Orleans and the sense of urgency with which we must work to ensure that all students achieve in the classroom and are set on a path to success at college and beyond. As a teachNOLA Teaching Fellow, you will draw on your experience and record of achievement to improve the lives of the city's neediest students.
This is a critical time for New Orleans and a potential watershed moment for public education in the United States. We have a historic opportunity to fully transform one of the nation’s lowest performing school systems, but that complete transformation will not be possible without effective, goal-oriented and devoted educators – like each of you. As Jay Altman, CEO of FirstLine Schools, said “It’s very exciting to be part of this movement. New Orleans could be the first city in the country where every kid goes to a good school.”
