A custodial supervisor is responsible for a variety of tasks and duties. He/she supervises other employees performing cleaning and sanitation duties in designated work areas. He/she is responsible for overseeing the entire custodial department and is sometimes a working manager, which enables him/her to lead by example.

Work Schedules
A custodial supervisor is usually responsible for setting and maintaining work schedules. Employees must adhere to the work schedule, per the custodial supervisor's instruction and direction. He/She is responsible for ensuring that employees complete work assignments in a timely manner. He/She also ensures that all building maintenance tasks have been properly completed by staff.

Feedback
A custodial supervisor plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, delegates and trains staff as they perform various tasks and duties.

Inspection
A custodial supervisor does all quality control checks to ensure that projects meet all standard requirements for cleanliness; he/she also ensures the implementation and execution of all established safety requirements. He/She is responsible for ensuring that the grounds, buildings and other surrounding areas meet quality assurance standards.

Supplies/Inventories
The custodial supervisor is responsible for ordering and maintaining the supplies needed to effectively complete a job. He/she maintains inventory at the correct levels and keeps an accurate accounting system of supplies and materials to guard against employee theft.

Equipment
A custodial supervisor ensures all equipment is functioning correctly, so that employees can perform job duties as needed. Routinely, he/she has to inspect all of the equipment and machinery, and approve requests for new equipment orders and repairs.

Flexibility
If there is more than one shift, the custodial supervisor must be completely flexible. He/she has to occasionally work with employees on other shifts, to ensure the right checks and balances are being followed consistently. This may mean long hours; however, it is the job of the custodial supervisor to oversee the job being done properly for each and every project.

Working Conditions
A custodial supervisor may be required to stoop, bend, sit and stand on a daily basis. She may also be required to lift heavy objects, including equipment and machinery, as a part of her job duties.
