Abeona House is a non-profit childcare center specializing in the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education, serving 60 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in a year-round program. We are currently moving to a new site in Mid-City, and are seeking a progressive chef to lead our emerging food program. We are in the process of growing into a space that will offer a high quality food program that demonstrates farm-to-table, local, diverse, fresh food offerings that are worthy of young children. This position will require planning, preparing the space and training (if necessary) in November, with an anticipated opening day of November 28. Once open, preparation and cook time will be 4 hours a day, with a gradual ramp up to a full-time position after 3 months.

This staff person will help launch this program, implement it, problem solve along the way, and will be the face of this program to families, other programs, and potential funders.

Desired Qualities- **Respect for young children, their teachers, and families is critical, and comfort with teaching young children and adults is a plus. **An intuitive understanding of healthy, local cooking that reflects our regional culture and the diversity of our world **Skills in budgeting and inventory, and efficiency are required **Safe-Serv Certification, or willingness to complete are necessary **Menu planning experience following USDA/CACFP guidelines **Comfort with precise record keeping and excel **Collaborative spirit as we work as a team and with our partners to develop this program **Strong communication and flexibility are key

Pay: $15/hour. Health insurance available once full-time.
