Success Preparatory Academy (SPA) is a Kindergarten through 5th grade high performing “transformation” charter school that opened its doors in August 2009. Each year, we will grow by one grade, eventually serving over 500 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a team of results driven educators who offer a world class education to this great city’s children.
Special Education Teachers create a positive learning environment in which to facilitate the academic, intellectual and social development of all learners. Special Education Teachers provide push-in and pull-out services that are designed to meet the unique needs of specific students and to comply with the requirements of an IEP caseload. To achieve these goals, Special Education Teachers will work closely with the Director of Special Education to ensure proper supports and practices are in place.
Key Responsibilities:
+ The design and facilitation of differentiation and learner supports
+ The design, facilitation and mastery of individual IEP goals and behavior intervention plans
+ The design and implementation of Tier III RTI interventions
+ Assist in the implementation and re-teaching of skills and research-based curriculum
+ Maintain the school culture of high academic and behavioral expectations through continuous reflection
+ The collection and maintenance of student performance data to be used to inform effective instructional practices
+ Carry and maintain a caseload of students with service requirements including all IEP, RTI or other pertinent meetings
+ Aid in the development and mastery of best special educational practices school-wide
+ Maintain student data including IEPs in SER
+ Be a constant learner
+ Work collaboratively with others
+ Be flexible in a challenging environment
Characteristics of our ideal candidate:
+ A passion and commitment to supporting and advocating for students with special needs
+ The ability to remain calm and collected in the face of sometimes extreme student behavior
+ The ability to receive and implement feedback
+ Highly effective oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills
+ K – 12 Mild/Moderate LA Teaching Certificate and at least 1 year of experience teaching Special Education in an urban environment
+ Master’s degree preferred
