Job Title: Computer Engineer
Reports To: Lead Systems Engineer
Department(s): Engineering and Design
Exempt Status: Full Time / Non Exempt

Summary

Crescent Unmanned Systems LLC, manufactures small multi-rotor and fixed wing Unmanned Aerial Systems for military and law enforcement Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) applications. These small Unmanned Aerial Systems provide law enforcement and government agencies with enhanced situational awareness capabilities. Crescent Unmanned Systems is rapidly becoming an industry leader in small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) solutions. Crescent Unmanned Systems is currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Computer Engineer at its manufacturing facility located at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

Computer Engineer will be responsible for electrical engineering, software design, and hardware/software integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems. Specific duties include writing software and firmware for embedded microcontrollers, designing operating systems, and developing digital systems to control and monitor electrical systems of robotic control. A heavy emphasis will be placed on developing intuitive, ergonomic user interface for ground control of Unmanned Aerial Systems. Computer Engineer will also be responsible for integrating diverse software applications into a cohesive control mechanism. Computer Engineer will develop a systematic plan to allow for the interoperability and synergism of command, control, communications, computers and information in order to accomplish client’s ISR collection objectives.
Further duties will involve the identification of opportunities to improve the quality of processes and the company products related to both hardware and software; enhancement of performance, productivity, and timely delivery of products. Priority will be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in AI, vehicle autonomy, and avionics functionality.

Required Skills

• Project management – ability to show empirical knowledge / completion of an engineering project from beginning to a successful completion. Experienced with MS Project (or equivalent). Proven ability to manage projects within designed budgets and timelines.
• Proven experience in systems integration methodologies and structured approaches to product development.
• Experience in successful coding, verification, unit testing, integration testing, and debugging of unique software packages.
• Experience planning, coordinating, measuring, monitoring, controlling, and reporting the development and maintenance of software in systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable way.
• Ability to manage the definition, implementation, assessment, measurement, management, change, and improvement of the software life cycle process.
• Ability to represent the team during briefings to and meetings with government and law enforcement customers.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Basic Qualifications

• BS in related engineering discipline.
• Interdisciplinary engineering knowledge, skill sets and experience including:
o embedded software systems
o electronics and electronic/control systems
o software design and engineering
o system integration
• Candidate must possess engineering expertise in at least one area, and have a deep understanding of the adjacent areas related to sUAS:
o control system architectures and components
o software programming (C, C++, Linux, MS Windows, Visual Basic)
o quality control / testing disciplines
• College GPA of 3.5 or greater.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance may be required for certain projects or programs. US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status is required for ITAR/EAA controlled projects or programs.
• Candidate must demonstrate past successes and be willing to provide references to verify all provided information. References will be thoroughly vetted and interviewed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in related engineering discipline.
• Understanding of aerodynamics fundamentals, UAV specific experience preferred.
• Familiarity with advanced flight controls including GPS navigation, electronic speed controllers, navigation boards, and PCBA construction preferred.

The position may require performing moderate physical activity including: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and other repetitive motions for extended periods of time.
