The Plaquemines Gazette and The St. Bernard Voice are weekly community papers in Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. We cover all news from the parish governments and school boards, to BP and Katrina recovery. We also cover community news through features and special sections that highlight high school sports, annual festivals and outdoor living, to name a few.

Job description
The position of reporter is a challenging position. The sister papers require writing multiple stories each week involving news and community issues in two different parishes. Photography is also required. Content comes from assignments from the editor and publishers, and from you having your eyes open in the coverage areas. With competition from the metro paper and other weeklies, our goal is to provide the best content to our readers. We have a great track record of doing this and you should be prepared to continue our high standards.

Responsibilities
• Attending government meetings, events, news conferences, or photo shoots, sometimes outside of business hours and on weekends
• Meeting weekly deadlines
• Producing content when and where needed within the papers
• Reacting and adapting to evolving circumstances quickly and efficiently
• Taking assignments and contributing story ideas

Qualifications
• Must be willing to work in a fast-paced, high-energy office — energy and enthusiasm a must!
• Must meet weekly deadlines.
• Must be willing to take pictures for publication. Photography experience isn't necessary; we will train.
• Must be able to understand governmental issues and report on them in a way all readers can understand.
• Must be a team player.

Reporting for The Plaquemines Gazette and The St. Bernard Voice is a great environment to learn the ropes of publication and to gain experience.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
