OffBeat Magazine is offering editorial internships that provide a grass roots level perspective on independent publishing, and interns will be involved at all levels of the operation.

Duties include (but aren’t limited to):

Writing assigned news stories and features
Pitching ideas for stories, features or reviews
Writing concert and CD reviews
Working on special projects
Answering phones and other clerical work
Helping with distribution

Interns who have experience with photography and videography will also have opportunities to develop their skills.

We believe interns should leave OffBeat with clippings for their portfolio. We also make some effort to tailor interns’ duties to their talents and interests. With the new OffBeat.com, we will have the space and occasion for them to contribute writing, photos and video on a regular basis.

Requirements: An interest in music, particularly Louisiana music, and some facility for writing, photography and/or videography.

Hours: Our hours can be tailored to interns’ schedules, though we prefer 6-9 hours a week, between Monday and Friday. More important than the number of hours is that we can count on the interns to be there for the hours that they commit to.

How to apply: Those interested in an internship should send an email expressing interest and what they bring to the table to Alex Rawls (editor) at alexrawls@offbeat.com or Jan Ramsey (publisher) at janramsey@offbeat.com.
