Position Summary:
FirstLine Schools seeks talented, passionate Middle and Primary School Special Education Teachers for 2010-2011.

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for:
• Teaching Reading and/or Math intervention classes
• Planning for and providing Push-in, Pull-out and Co-teaching services as appropriate for students
• Writing and monitoring student IEPs and other internal and external special education paperwork
• Supporting classroom teachers and Special Education Coordinator in developing and planning curriculum and modifications for students
• Assessing and monitoring the progress of students and ensuring they all perform at high levels.

All Teachers at FirstLine Schools:
• Teach a challenging, standards-based curriculum
• Participate in the life of the school by teaching, planning, and meeting from 8-9 hours weekdays (schedule varies by school), occasional evening commitments and two to five weeks of professional development the summer (depends on school).
• Participate in the daily functioning of the school – morning, lunch, and afternoon supervisory duties, student reports and records, extracurricular activities, etc.
• Actively engage in weekly professional development and professional meetings.
• Design, turn in and revise lesson and unit plans.
• Invite observations and feedback and strive to continual improve their teaching
• Hold high expectations for each student. Seek to constantly refine instructional techniques.
• Maintain a rigorous and engaging classroom and implement school-wide student management system everywhere on campus.
• Build positive rapport with students. Establish and maintain strong communication with all parents.

Position Requirements:
• Believe deeply in the mission and values of FirstLine Schools.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience
• Demonstrated success working with students in an urban, open admissions school
• A strong background in and command of content area
• A BA or BS
• Louisiana Teacher Certification completed or in progress
