WE ARE EXPANDING OUR ADVERTISING SALES TEAM.
With the popularity of the HBO series Tremé, OffBeat Media (publisher of OffBeat Magazine, OffBeat.com, the Weekly Beat, LouisianaMusicDirectory.com, OffBeat Mobile and the producer of the Best of The Beat Awards) needs more salespeople. We pride ourselves on a quality product with award-winning design and editorial and a real affinity for New Orleans’ music and culture.

We are looking for special team members to join OffBeat with the primary purpose to increase our revenue base so we can increase our commitment to the New Orleans and Louisiana cultural communities.

Previous media sales or general sales experience is preferred. Your income will be based on how much revenue you produce as a salesperson, so you must be very goal-oriented. You also have the ability to make as much money as you want—it just depends on how hard—and smart—you want to work. We have a small business, so you’ll be very involved in learning about how we operate by participating in the many aspects of what we do.

We are looking for someone who’ll want to grow with us to take on (or create) extra projects because they are a challenge, because they expand our mission statement, and of course, because they contribute towards our bottom line.

You have to who truly care about the music and culture of New Orleans. If you have a background in promotions, you might consider this position as we have found that that is a good basis for an advertising salesperson.

And who knows, you might own the company one day—but it will take commitment and dedication on your part. EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Self confident and personality-plus with an affinity for advertising sales (in other words, you need to like to sell).
• Enjoys new challenges and solving problems for clients in a creative manner.
• Detail-oriented, persistent in follow-up and follow-through.
• Professional appearance and attitude (but we’re no “button-down” place to work!)
• Ability to work successfully in a high-energy, deadline-oriented small business environment with a team of other like-minded salespeople.
• Willing and able to learn how to “do it all.”
• Familiarity with New Orleans businesses, music, restaurants, bars, culture, festivals and the neighborhoods of the city (not just what you’ve seen on Tremé!).
• Enjoys networking and excels in providing top-level customer service for client retention.
• Excellent people and communication skills (you must be able to prepare proposals, write top-notch persuasive business letters and emails).
• Self confident and effective at cold-calling and acquiring new clients.
• Be a self-starter to the point where you don’t need supervision to be effective.
• Media-savvy and keeps up with what’s going on in the business community.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, preferably marketing, communications or equivalent experience. Minimum GPA 3.0 if a recent college graduate. Media sales experience a plus.
• Ability to effectively work in a team-selling environment and work with accounts in complex environments.
• Proven analytical- and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated success in building long-term relationships with clients.
• Ability to use software tools (we use ACT) to evaluate and pursue sales opportunities.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products and databases in general.
• Experience with web advertising sales a big plus.

COMPENSATION:
Beginning salary negotiable. Compensation is a draw against commission, with benefits.
