Housing and Economic Development Fellow
Louisiana Delta Service Corps Position

Position Objective: This position is designed to help our organization deliver quality affordable housing units while promoting economic development and employment opportunities for small, local, low-income, minority, women, and disadvantaged contractors and workers. We also have a variety of community economic development projects in 2010-11 that the member will potentially manage.

Key Responsibilities:

Project and Construction Management

* Assist project manager with project finance, accounting and document management. * Work with construction manager and general contractor foremen to ensure the delivery of a quality new construction or rehab housing product. * Research, procure, and monitor performance of green building products and strategies including solar photovoltaic, high performance insulation, and energy star appliances and fixtures. * Develop maintenance, security, and other holding cost strategies for units and property.

Economic Development

* Identify and assist local entrepreneurs to build businesses in this area * Design and implement small scale neighborhood commercial projects for LaSalle Street corridor and participate in larger scale commercial development planning for Claiborne Avenue Corridor. * Assist organization with financial planning, risk modeling, project feasibility, and cash flow analysis * Manage one or more neighborhood economic development and employment programs TBD by fall 2010.

Preferred Qualifications: (including educational and work experience)One of the preferred backgrounds is desirable, but not mandatory, for the position: 1) Urban Planning (including urban studies, public policy, sociology, or related field) 2) Construction or construction/project management 3) Architecture or urban design 4)Business (including management, entrepreneurism, finance, or economics)

Please note that this is an 11-month Americorps service position. Position begins late August 2010 and continues to July 2011. It includes $11,800 yearly stipend (paid monthly), healthcare, and a monthly stipend with a $5300 education award at the end of the year of service.
